The other day (actually exactly a week ago) Daniel and I met his friend
Fowsy (the same guy who took us to the French ambassador's house at the beginning of my trip), and we all went out for breakfast in the Old City. The Old City, if I haven't explained it before, is an area of
Sana'a that is the oldest part of the city. It used to be surrounded by a wall and is made up of buildings that are around 2000 years old. I really like it, it's beautiful. We went to eat
sahawak and
yourt. This dish is a traditional breakfast dish in the Old City.
Sahawak is basically
pico de guillo salsa and
yourt is yogurt. You put the
sahawak in with the yogurt and eat it with bread. It's delicious. Anyway, we went for breakfast and then took a walk around the Old City. Here are some pictures of the architecture. I particularly like the doors and windows.

This little boy came up and asked to get his picture taken. The kids are cute, often they just want you to take their picture so they can see it, then they run off.

Daniel pointed out this sign. For some reason I think it is absolutely hilarious. There's something about it being perfect English, but meaning something other than what they intend. Who knew window treatments needed such attention here in Yemen...
hahaha.

It was a great morning, although I got sunburned, but only on the center of my face of course. It was pretty funny looking once I took the scarf off actually.
The boy is my favorite and hoping to see pictures of your face!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe architecture is amazing, truly beautiful. I wonder what the buildings are made of. Guess we will find all of this out in FOUR DAYS.
Peace Out
